Making Space for Meaningful Change

PTSD and Complex PTSD

Sometimes the past doesn't stay in the past. Experiences that were overwhelming, frightening, or deeply painful can continue to affect the way you experience yourself, your relationships, and the world around you—even long after the immediate danger has passed.

PTSD can show up in many ways. You may experience intrusive memories or nightmares, feel constantly on guard, avoid certain people or situations, or find yourself reacting strongly to reminders of what happened. You may understand logically that you're safe now, while another part of you still responds as though the danger is present.

Complex PTSD can develop when trauma has been ongoing, repeated, or occurred within relationships where there was little opportunity to escape or feel safe. Along with trauma symptoms, you may struggle with trust, self-worth, boundaries, emotional regulation, or a sense of who you are. You may have learned to stay alert, adapt to others, or disconnect from your own needs simply to get through what you experienced.

Therapy can provide a space to gently explore these experiences and understand how they may still be influencing your life today. We can work toward greater self-understanding, a stronger sense of safety, healthier boundaries, and the ability to respond to the present without being continually pulled back into the past.

Healing doesn't require forgetting what happened or pretending it didn't affect you. It means creating a future in which your past no longer has to dictate how you experience yourself, your relationships, or your life.
